Massif regulations

The Massif de l’Estérel is a jewel to be preserved

This strikingly beautiful natural site, with its steep gorges, pine forests and fragrant scrubland, attracts many visitors every year in search of nature, hiking or simply contemplation.

But this idyllic setting is also a fragile environment, exposed to a number of risks, not least forest fires. In summer, drought, high temperatures and the mistral wind create conditions conducive to the rapid spread of fire. Every year, hectares of vegetation go up in smoke, endangering fauna, flora, walkers and local residents.

We would like to remind you of a few essential rules:

  • Respect access restrictions during high-risk periods (often between June and September). These measures are temporary but vital.
  • Never throw cigarette butts or flammable waste. A simple gesture can cause a catastrophe.
  • Avoid barbecues and fires near the forest.
  • Stay on the marked trails to protect the vegetation and avoid getting lost.
  • Find out more before you visit via official websites or local tourist offices.

From July 1 to August 31, the Prefect of the Var draws up the access map for the massifs every evening. It is updated on the site at 6pm and the color is displayed in our office and at the entrance to the slopes.
